The powerful combination of award-winning apps and a proven method—YNAB’s Four Rules—has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people by teaching them to get control of their finances, stop stressing, and live the life they want to live. A Proven Method—YNAB’s Four Rules Rule One: Give Every Dollar A Job | Be intentional about what you want your money to do before you spend it. Rule Two: Embrace Your True Expenses | Break up larger, less frequent expenses into smaller, manageable amounts. By saving monthly for insurance premiums, holidays, or car repairs, when the time comes, your money is ready and waiting to do its job. Rule Three: Roll With The Punches | When life changes, so must your budget. Make adjustments and move along. Flexible budgets succeed because they’re guilt-free, realistic, and sustainable. Rule Four: Age Your Money | As you repeat the first three rules, you’ll increase the time between earning a dollar and the moment you need to spend it. You cannot search, you cannot reconcile, you cannot undo. They block subscribers from using a mobile browser, shamelessly salting the wound by calling this app “full featured.”

I have been using YNAB for over 5 years—well before a mobile app existed. It is truly the best budgeting system available. Don’t hesitate to support this amazing company while getting yourself on track. I love that the YNAB philosophy is make a fresh start by looking at what you have, budgeting it by giving every dollar a job, and adjusting as you go. It’s a different thought system than other software options, but it’s so simple when you understand it. (Their training videos are stellar.)

Good UI and friendly money-tracking ethos.
  • Incredibly poor

The app functions decently well, has a very limited number of functions. The YNAB startup and budget tracking process is incredibly poor. Plus they provide you with little to no flexibility, you have to do it their way or the system does not work at all. Really can’t believe they charge $83 a year for this, so incredibly not worth it

I’ve been looking at and comparing budget apps for a couple of weeks now. It came down to two apps, one that is free and rated very highly, and this one. I set both apps up and it didn’t take me long to figure out this is the best app for me. I like that one can’t try and budget for things if the money isn’t already in your account. (I’m guilty of that. It never works out well.). Worth paying for.
  • SELLS YOUR DATA

Claims to sell “anonymized” data, which is the same BS every other company selling your personal data tries to say.
  • Credit cards unclear

Not sure why they make credit cards so hard to use, track, and understand.
  • The BEST financial overview!!!

I love seeing exactly how much we have and what categories we are saving for etc. I’ve been using YNAB for over a year now and have really gotten into my groove with our budget. It does take time and commitment...in the beginning. Now I spend about 5-10 minutes every morning reconciling my accounts...I actually look forward to it! I try for monthly budget chats with my husband so he can see where we’re at. I have added things and tweaked my budget over the past year, and now I don’t think there is a thing that we’re not planning for. (A solid emergency fund for the totally unexpected stuff). I definitely spend less, because I know exactly where our money is and where we want it to go. With three teens in the house and college coming up, we need to be on top of things. I’ve tried MANY budgeting apps and this is the only one that finally allowed me to give up my Excel spreadsheet. We are a debt free family (no mortgage, no car payments, etc), but we do have a Lake house rental business (reasonable mortgage on that). YNAB has kept us SO organized!!! Love!

Keep the updates coming! I am so proud of myself! I just updated and moved funds around solely on the app!! Awesome sauce!
  • New UI is dumb

LOVE ynab as a tool. But this new update of the app has some terrible user interface choices. The PRIMARY purpose of the app is entry of transactions on the go. So why do the calculator buttons keep getting smaller? Also the old cue showing reduction in category was great. It cued that you actually saved a transaction, plus the psychological hit immediately showing where you now sit in the budgeted category. Why make that go away? It’s like you’ve forgotten the utility of the app...
