The powerful combination of award-winning apps and a proven method—YNAB’s Four Rules—has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people by teaching them to get control of their finances, stop stressing, and live the life they want to live. A Proven Method—YNAB’s Four Rules Rule One: Give Every Dollar A Job | Be intentional about what you want your money to do before you spend it. Rule Two: Embrace Your True Expenses | Break up larger, less frequent expenses into smaller, manageable amounts. By saving monthly for insurance premiums, holidays, or car repairs, when the time comes, your money is ready and waiting to do its job. Rule Three: Roll With The Punches | When life changes, so must your budget. Make adjustments and move along. Flexible budgets succeed because they’re guilt-free, realistic, and sustainable. Rule Four: Age Your Money | As you repeat the first three rules, you’ll increase the time between earning a dollar and the moment you need to spend it. When your money is at least a month old, you’ll have finally broken the paycheck to paycheck cycle for good. • Awesome tool, simple principle.

    By JAlecMartin
Simple idea executed extremely well. I love this tool. Using YNAB, I went from paycheck to paycheck to having almost 4k saved. Granted, I had the money to work with to begin with - it won’t make you rich; however, it WILL help you put your money to good use. I used to worry about each check and which bills it would pay. Now, I’ve got this month’s and next month’s bills set aside, and I don’t worry when I spend money, because it’s set aside for that purpose. It’s the envelope idea updated for a digital world, and the bank integration - while sometimes spotty - is a great way to keep track of spending. It does require that you USE it. It won’t automatically help you, you have to want it a bit. I check my bank against YNAB daily. Overkill, sure, but it helps me stay on track with my debts and savings.
  • Ok tool

    By Ssrikako
I see only 1 report in the tool, does not give much deails. I would like to see more details like which category i am spending more etc.. Also transactions modt of the time we need to choose category. It would have been nice , everymonth it copies the average budgeted details or from last month which wiuld have avoided typing.
  • CAREFUL! Read the privacy policy

    By Cyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
YNAB has the privacy policy of a free app that creates revenue by transmitting user data, except it’s a subscription based app that transmits user data. Please please please read the policy before importing your bank account information into this app. If you sign up for a subscription your information will be held for a “minimum period of 3 years” after canceling. What about the maximum you might ask? It doesn’t mention. Read this policy and then download an app like Mvelopes (another envelope budgeting app) and take a look at its policy, you will notice the difference. YNAB clearly states that it shares user information with third parties that it partners with for analytics purposes. And although it does mention that it does not sell user information for “direct marketing purposes”, a partnership with an information based analytics company involving all of your bank transactions would be mutually beneficial to both companies as YNAB would gain aggregate analysis of its users and the analytics company would gain access to all of YNAB’s user's transactions. Because it’s mutually beneficial the partnership wouldn’t need to involve money and therefore YNAB wouldn’t be selling anything, and the analytics company would then be able to use user's banking history for direct marketing purposes. All while still remaining within the confines of YNAB's privacy policy. Hopefully I am misinterpreting the policy and it's not as poor as it looks, but there is a big difference between this policy and the other budget tracking apps I have seen which specifically state that they don't share your information with third parties.
  • Vertical Orientation for iPad app?

    Vertical Orientation for iPad app?
  • Needs More Features

    By Reviews4U04
The YNAB method is great, but the app is lacking in features—especially when it comes to charts. I miss Mint specifically for that reason. Yes, there are more available on the web version, but the mobile app is what I use almost always.
  • By far the best

    By EEhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhy
After trying out 4 different budget apps and finding them all to be lacking, this one blows the rest away. If you’re looking to actively control you money, save, and make it work for you, this is the app. The app is intuitive, yet very powerful. Combine it with the YNAB method and you have the complete package. Their customer service has been phenomenal. Jen was super helpful in the included coaching session. Tons of resources available. YNAB is the way to go. Take control.
  • Must have

It’s the only budget system that has ever worked for me. It’s completely transformed the way I handle my money. Do yourself a favor and just try it!!
  • Great Accompaniment to the Desktop App

    By Blumarble
I’ve been using this software for at least three years. I love it. It has changed my family‘s financial life. This iOS app is a great accompaniment to the desktop app on my Mac. I highly recommend it. My only complaint is that this iOS app, in all of it’s iterations, has never had any type of security feature. Meaning, that anyone who has access to your phone has access to your financial data within this app. How can we have gone so many years with this app and not have it password-protected or protected by face ID?
  • Cannot possibly overstate my satisfaction with this app, desktop version, and company!

    By jessicamanna
I joined the free trial with a personal commitment to quit before the deadline if it wasn’t making a valuable impact. Less than 30 days in, can easily say I’m 100% hooked and a raving fan! Everything about this product is exceptional - mobile app, desktop version, support, self-serve knowledge portals, YouTube channel. Transformational product, expertly thought through and architected, with great support resources. This is a product clearly built from passion. As my husband (an enterprise architect and engineer) would say, “built by architects and engineers with self-respect!” :-)
  • Good but not great

    By Mark in Brooklyn
YNAB is an excellent system for budgeting, and after 20 years of using Quicken and then Banktivity, I find budgeting with YNAB to be the most effective by far. The iPad version though feels like a missed opportunity. I don’t know why the reports available on the browser versions cannot be displayed on the iPad, and so effectively this is the iPhone version on a bigger screen. Spending trends, Income Vs Spending and Category summaries could easily be done on the iPad version, and would enhance its value immensely. As things stand, you still really need to use the browser version (which annoyingly on an iPad points you to the app version telling you it’s better - it is not. If you’re going to block YNAB on iPad Safari, at least make the app be able to do all the things the browser can.
