  • Good instruction, bad UX/ UI

    Im 10 days into the course and i can say that i feel like the instruction im getting here is better than any other meditation app. That is great, the main point of the app, so no complaints on that front. I was going to rate the app a 4 because I want his app to be successful, bit ive gone ahead and rated it as a 3 because of some glaring UI and UX issues with the app. Two features are badly needed: 1. A “mark as complete” option on any day of meditation. If you do not follow the audio a full 100% through, the button for that meditation appears as if it has never been opened. This leaves it looking as if you havent completed certain days or opening a meditation youve already completed. Not on the level of frustrating, but definitely annoying. 2. The ability to scroll through the audio timeline by being able to grab the slider. This feature could be a janky way of eliminating the need for my first feature (you could scroll to the end of a meditation to mark it as complete) but if you miss something he says you can.... scroll back to hear it. I understand the logic of locking this feature during a meditation, but if you missed something crucial it would be nice to go back even if only after the fact. Less important, but the repetition of the featured content and lessons section doesnt seem to serve a purpose other than filling screen real estate, in which case i would advise a better layout. Those are my gripes. Would happily change my review to a 5 if even only my first two criticisms were addressed.

    I feel so fortunate to have found this practice. I’ve been a fairly hard-headed atheist for decades, so it took me a while to digest “spirituality” as something even worth exploring, but between Sam’s book Waking Up and this app, I can confirm there is a “there” there. Bottom line, I feel wonderful, and whatever “mindfulness” is, I can confirm it’s absolutely worth exploring.

    I’ve been listening to Sam’s podcast for a while now, love his conversations. I’ve been using the mediation app now for about 3 weeks and it’s the first time I’ve really been able to grasp what meditation is all about. I especially enjoy the lessons he provides, very insightful. Great app.

    Sam Harris is an all around inspiration on how to live life. This app is another extension of that. This is a very beautiful way of introducing meditation. The lessons are short enough tap they are not intimidating to beginners but have enough in them to start learning from day one and start to see how beneficial meditation is. Would recommend this to everyone who wants to find a little more peace in their life. Thank you Sam for creating this.

  • Great introduction to meditation

    I have been a fan and supporter of the Waking Up podcast for the last couple years and my curiosity about meditation and it’s benefits has grown each time Sam has discussed the subject. I find meditation to be very challenging but I am beginning to see glimmers of the potential benefits of having more control over my mind. This app is fantastic and has really helped me to be more consistent in my meditation practice. Sam’s discussions on meditation, on the podcast and in the course, suggest that there are deep and profound truths that can be gleaned through this practice. While I find it a bit frustrating that I still have no clue what he’s talking about most of the time when he talks about meditation, I find it to be beneficial nonetheless and the hope of at some point better understanding what he’s talking about on this subject motivates me to continue with my practice.

    This is the meditation app I’ve been looking for for a long time. Finally meditation guidance that feels meaningful and productive. The lessons on spirituality and self awareness are a real treat. If you’ve ever listened to any of Sam’s lectures and wished you had access to more direct teaching from him, this is the app for you. Sam if you keep producing new meditations and lessons you’ve got a subscriber for life. Thank you for taking the time to create these incredible courses. Congrats on a fantastic app!

    I love this app, not only because it’s Sam Harris, but because it steps you through progressively more involved sessions. Sam Harris tells you what to do and why he is having you do it. I’ve tried Calm and Headspace and those are fine, but I like this meditation app best.

    An excellent way to instill or re-instill the habit of meditation and practice. It trascends time spent with the app and affects my state of presence at unexpected moments throughout the day - mostly a state of calm when engaging with others. Everyday Sam thanks you for your efforts and generously and consistently invites your return. Exceptional overall framework and relaxed methodology allowing for experiments and playing with new techniques.
