  • Slow

    By anything new?
This version runs slower than the previous version. When I open an article it takes seconds to display, it’s ridiculous.
  • Terrible reliability, not worth the price

    By Admiral D
(Sep 19, 2018) The app has become even more unreliable in the last few months. In particular, when an ad is scrolled onto the screen from the bottom, it will freeze. Nothing you do will get the app working again until you force quit it. Super frustrating. (Mar 24, 2011, v2.3.9 - 1 star, title: Terrible reliability, not worth the price) This application is nearly unusable. It crashes at least once every other time I use it, and I would typically check it 6-8 times a day. If you use it for more than a few minutes, it also tends to crash. When it crashes, you have to restart it twice before it will run again. Sometimes when it doesn't crash, it will stop downloading news, even if you manually push the button. Then you have to kill the application (if you're on iOS 4 anyway) and start it twice. On top of the fact that the application is terrible, NY Times is now charging $15/month to access it, or will be on March 28th. I have uninstalled this and turned to The Washington Post. That application so far has never crashed on me (despite its reviews indicating unreliability) nor failed to download updated news. It's not as easy to use as the NYT application (when it worked), and it lacks NY/NYC local news (which I rarely read), and has a little different slant/bias, but it's perfectly adequate and more than meets my needs. Overall: Stay away from this application. Try the WaPo. (Nov 11, 2010, v2.3.6 - 3 stars, title: Great content, great UI, terrible reliability) The NY Times has great content. You knew that or you wouldn't be looking at this. The UI is also great. It's easy to browse through sections, and you can easily reconfigure the bottom bar to include the ones you like best. It has the best UI of USA Today, NPR News, Associated Press, etc. The big problem is that the application crashes a lot on my iPhone 4 with iOS 4.0.x. It doesn't often crash when I am actually using it, but if I switch apps and come back, it will be crashed. Then, you need to launch it twice again before it will work. Very inconvenient, especially if you get a phone call and then can't get back to the article you're reading. This is especially painful if you were reading something in Latest News that isn't there anymore. It could really use an additional section, "Recently Viewed Articles," which keeps the last 50 articles (or however many) that you read ready for easy re-reading.
  • Dang ads

    By reviewingreviewingreviewing
Yall. I would think that paying money each month for the full access to the times would be rewarded with no ads in the app. Nope. Ads every three lines of text. Way lame. I want to read the news, not go shopping for beach ware.
  • Echo recent reviews

I was wondering if I was having an isolated problem since last update but I see from my fellow readers that many of us are experiencing articles that don’t load and ads that have become intrusive. At one point I though my subscription must have lapsed but it had not. Please resolve these issues. Thanks
  • Getting worse and worse

    By Cw8us
The writing and articles are of course still excellent, but the app just gets worse and worse. Articles now take MANY long seconds to load, on Wifi, with a fast iPhone. Video ads freeze the app so that you cannot even scroll. C’mon team, get it together! Horrible regressions...
  • NYT is the News

    By Pax Wolf
I live in a deep red small town without an Independent newspaper. I am grateful for the Times. Cutting edge reporting offers so much more than unbiased news. I was very impressed by The anonymous Trump White House Senior Staff member’s discussion of working with the President. The fashion, travel, food and week in review section are fabulous. The electronic paper is much appreciated. I can only receive newsprint on weekends out of San Antonio. I relish weekends because of the NY Magazine, Fashion and the Art sections. However, the most important aspect is the NYT tells the TRUTH! Corrections are few and far between. Thank you NYT.
  • Unusable for me

The app consistently crashes on my ipad.
  • Too many external articles!

    By robert @ plasq
I’ve used the Times app for a number of years and I’ve noticed a worrying trend. More and more articles are hosted externally (indicated by the arrow in the left hand corner). In the past I could rely on having 99% of the articles downloaded onto my iPad every morning. this meant that ?I could read the paper no matter what kind of Internet connection I had. Great for plane travel for example. Now it seems about 50% (90% if we’re in the opinion section) of the articles require an active Internet connection to read, the benefit of an app over a browser is becoming less clear each day... So what is it NYT? An app or a glorified browser? Please go back to the way it was before, reserving external links for content that requires multimedia features not available in the app.
  • Really slow and balky

    By Unhappy Nats fan
It sometimes takes forever for stories to open. I click on a story on my iPhone and all I get is a white screen with a spinning circle in the middle. Sometimes it takes minutes to open. And when I first open the app and scroll through stories, the screen is almost sure to freeze up. This app worked much better before the latest update.
  • Too many ads

    By 1lle
NYTimes is adding too many ads during and before reading articles. The video ads especially waste time and data. It would be one thing if articles were free but we have full subscription.
