App Reviews

  • Used to run more reliably

Love the news. Hate the frequent lock-ups. Please fix the bugs!
  • Buggy and expensive

Latest version does not auto update the news. Updating manually requires several attempts before it “takes” and updates. My digital subscription just doubled. Now it is 4x mores cost than WaPo. Does anyone out there really think NYT is worth 4x the price of the Washington Post?
  • What is happening with app?

    By Coastylo
I love The NY Times. The reporters and articles are just the best, but what the heck is happening with this app? The “Top Stories” page is often just ads. The mini crossword can be impossible to find. I suspect, there’s a bug to blame, but it’s been going on long enough for the developers to get complaints and fix it. Right?
  • Banner ads - extremely distracting

    By PEK688
The size and frequency of banner ads are extremely distracting — I regularly login via safari instead and use an ad blocker to be able to have a reasonable reading experience. I am not saying that The New York Times shouldn’t advertise — just do it in a way that doesn’t detract from the reading experience.
  • Used to work, now always frozen...

Really frustrating. Even after deleting and reinstalling, and updating, still won’t work.
  • More ads than text

    By kriserts2
How many ads can you jam onto a page? Sooooo many, apparently. The same ad, over and over and over. Guys, if I don’t engage the first time, I’m not engaging the 25th time, either. Banner ads aren’t much more than blocks of color the eye skips over—take it from me, I’m in advertising, they don’t work—but MAN those blocks get annoying when they’re stacked right after each paragraph of text. Today I read the Times through my browser just so I could use Reader View. You want to push everyone in that direction? So no one ever sees any ads at all? Maybe just try fewer ads so resorting to Reader View doesn’t become a trend. Another thing—the blocks of links to other stories, BEFORE the end of the story I’m reading. So many times I think, wow, weird end to this article, then I realize it’s not the end, there’s another paragraph or two after links to 50 other articles. Super annoying. You don’t want people to finish the current article? You think my attention is that short? You know how bad you have to get for me to interrupt my morning, come to the App Store, and write this review? Seriously bad. I expect more of The NY Times.
  • New NYT App

    By No watts
This new NYT app for iPad is slower than an outdated PC filled with network software and far too many pet videos. Half the time it fails to open, and when it does I'm looking at a "Top News" page of which three quarters I saw two days ago. Bring back the old one!
  • Buggy and slow

    By Michael Santaly
Crashes frequently, and is otherwise slow to load
  • Overrun with ads

    By Jdjxjeieofjd
The Top Stories page features a total of three articles hidden in between five ads. The app simply crawls to load content as it scrambles to fill every blank space with an ad. Worse, the ads are repeats, so they don’t provide much entertainment as you forage for the next real article. Good reporting, awful app.
  • Latest version too slow

    By DWRoth
Painful waiting for articles to load. Need to get back to basics.
