  • Intrusive dark pattern in the latest version

    By Luke G.
I got a huge green block of pixels on my list now advertising premium. Only this huge block of pixels is MASKING an article in the list: you tap the green space, carefully so as not to tap the upgrade to premium link, and you get to the hidden article. Dark patterns are not how you get me to be a premium user, and $5 a month for small upgrades is a very tough sell ($1 a month is the most I’d pay), especially when we live in a world where I’m expected to maintain a separate $5-20 a month subscription to all my newspapers, all my media content, even my RSS reader. Pocket is nice, but its competition is a web browser’s bookmark folder and the readability-clone now packaged in many web browsers by default. That being said, I’d love to support the devs since I do use the free version daily, but $45 a year and dark patterns otherwise are not how you win over user support.
  • Love the app, but alas, version 7.0.0 is quite buggy /v7.0.17 update

    By GeorgeOJ
Updated for v. 7.0.14 The key bugs, crashes, and inability to batch-tag have now all been fixed. I’m still not thrilled about some of the v7 design choices, but now it’s definitely a 4star app that it used to be. I rely on it a lot, so I’m happy about the fixes. — I have used the pro version for years, and love it, so I don’t want to make this sound too negative - this has been a great app for a long time for me. Unfortunately, I’ve also come to rely on it as my main content “reading app”, and I’m finding that this new update is frustrating, as it brings few meaningful positive changes, and apparently quite a few annoying bugs that interfere with basic reading functions. I wish I had waited for future dot releases... On iPhone XS Max, the app locks up often and needs to be closed/restarted; selecting multiple entries in the list view, and then batch-adding tags to them doesn’t work at all (you have to go to full article and add these to one title at a time) I tend to tag stuff, so it’s a major pain; trying to add passwords to subscription sites is impossible (blank screen replaces actual content on the URL and password entry screen, with no keyboard, in an endless loop, forcing an app restart, again. There are many smaller annoyances which might be due to my personal preferences, but it’s hard to call them improvements (e.g., tags now take a LOT of space on the list screen, unnecessarily, allowing it to show by far fewer items than before). Yes, audio addition is sort of cool, but most of the people who really like listening to content (I do, when I drive), are probably already using something much better sounding, such as VoiceDream app, with an impressive collection of high-quality, international voices, ability to parse and read correctly PDFs and other files, etc. Pocket offers only the basic iOS voices (and changes them arbitrarily during reading of the same article), which are perfectly functional for quick notifications or reminders, but are not very suitable for sustained reads/listening, sounding too tinny and mechanical. Can’t envision listening to this during a two-hour trip... There is no option to add/purchase high quality alternative voices like there is in VoiceDream. I was looking forward to an “improved” version, but the previous version was great, and now I wish I hadn’t upgraded too quickly. I hope that at least some of these major misbehaviors will get fixed soon in the forthcoming dot releases, and then, hopefully, Pocket will go back to being its good old four star app again? Please? :)

  • Pocket is great for keeping my recipes

    By 1961Lulu
I’ll be honest, I lost a collection of recipes when a tablet I was using at the time. Pocket, was introduced to me by my daughter, I like it very much for storing my recipes with a back up.
  • Valuable tool

  • No true black theme for iPhone X

    By LeoVogel
No true black theme for iPhone X. Pocket should be ashamed they’ve taken this long to implement such an obvious feature.
  • One of my top 10 apps

    By Johnny Appleseed1
There are a million ways to save and view articles these days but this is my favorite both because the reading interface is so customizable AND because their curated list of weekly reads (based on your interests I think) are really excellent. If you like to save articles to read later on your phone and on your computer in one convenient cloud location, this is a great choice. Also dark mode is great for reading in bed.
  • Best way to read current events

    By LouiePhoto
I love being able to save articles to Pocket so that I can come back when I have time to relax and read.
  • Great articles at your fingertips

    By HeBu60
How can you not love an app that selects and delivers a wide range of interesting, well researched and well written articles to you on a daily basis?
  • Needs OLED Optimization

    By abw95
Great app, but it would be even better if the dark theme was optimized for OLED screens on newer iPhones.
