  • Difficult to use lists of verses

I have used OliveTree for years. It has great resources to work with and I have purchased a lot of commentaries and other resources over time. As a pastor, I often want to work with lists of verses or passages, as in sermons, or devotionals, or for specific occasions and OliveTree is not at all easy to work with in that way. One would think the ability to make and rearrange lists of verses, and then to operate out of that list would not be difficult to add, but apparently it is. If you would like to have that ability, please send them a note in support so they will make it a priority.

I like the new interface but the text display is now crippled if notes and highlights aren’t turned off. All of my notes are in a translation that won't display properly at present. There is nothing on the website about this nor a resolution timeline. No doubt they're working on it as holiday sales will suffer if it's not fixed.
  • Good app. One really annoying bug.

This is an excellent app for reading and studying the Bible. What is particularly useful to me is the ability to review different translations of the same passage, either in English, or another language like Spanish, German, or Latin. There is one flaw, though, in my preferred translation that I hope can be fixed. The New American Bible, Revised Edition is one of the English versions approved by the Catholic Church, and is the one used in North American liturgies. Unfortunately, the footnotes - which are very important to making the NABRE a Catholic Study Bible, since they cover historical, cultural, and linguistic information to help understand a verse, chapter, or section - are incorrectly linked. Tapping a footnote indicator (a * or a letter) jumps to the wrong note, usually between 1 1/2 and 2 chapters away, making it very difficult to find the correct note for the verse you are reading. For this reason alone, I cannot use this app for Bible Study. If the developers read this review, please fix the footnote issue on the NABRE.
  • This is the absolute ULTIMATE Bible app!

This is *THE* Bible app as far as I'm concerned! Their FUNCTIONALITY of constantly, and I mean CONSTANTLY enhancing the way the huge variety of your Bible library and Christian books work seamlessly together is untouchable! So much so that I have begged my favorite Bible and Christian book publishers to work with this company to integrate their publications into their vast selection, because I truly think these guys have taken the FULLEST advantage of the power of the electronic universe (from my PDA days to my iPhone and iPad) of ANYONE working with these media. They know what a lover of God's Word wants both studying the Bible and devotionally spending time in God's presence. Every way you want to make personal notes or mark up your Bible are there in a usable and beautiful fashion. I've built my library over the years + have tried every imaginable Bible app. THIS one is built for LIFE, and they make improvements nearly EVERY DAY, it seems. When I download a software update there has RARELY been a SMALL issue. These guys usually are ahead of the glitches, but if it’s not IMMEDIATELY fixed it usually IS fixed to PERFECTION within a few days! (Most commonly the fix is already available, I just may not know that for a few days.) Their customer service has ALWAYS been EXCEPTIONAL (yes, I do know what bad customer service is - these guys are AWESOME! ). They have NEVER let me down! I push all my apps to the limit. These guys deserve the absolute highest rating possible. I LOVE these guys! Build your Bible library with THIS app! You'll fall in love with God's Word all over again!

I really enjoy the app, as far as reading the Bible. However, I can only give it 3 stars account of its handling of highlights and notes. Being forced to use a social media platform as the only means provided to highlight Biblical verses or jot down personal notes is a huge disappointment for me; especially, since I’m not a social media person. Otherwise, using this app for silent reading of the Bible during commute times on the train or any other idle moments in the day, it’s nice.
  • A good Bible app—but one persistent issue

This is a very good app that keeps getting one thing wrong in each update. The history should be accessible from the page one is reading. It used to be that way when I started using it but now one has to pull up a menu first. Whether a person is doing a study and moving back and forth between a number of passages or using this app in church as a pastor shifts between passages it is annoying that the history always involves several steps when it doesn’t need to.
  • Great Feature Set

I've been using this app for several years, now. Mostly I stay with it because it has a great set of features, like no other. Highlighting down to the word level, inserting notes anywhere, a split view option and a good collection of supported gestures that make it easy to navigate quickly anywhere all combine to make a really useful study tool. The reliability issues the app has had in the past have seemed quite well cleaned up. It has been a while now since any real problems have prevented my using it. While I’m glad for this, I’m not at all happy that this latest release appears to have taken away the ability to search within an open resource, such as a second translation in “parallel view.” I used this frequently, and now will have to revert to a different app to do this. Why in heaven’s name would they take away that functionality?
