  • A accidental mistake turns into actual love

    By caseusnsm
I downloaded the OKCUPID app to my phone back in May and honestly thought nothing of it. After scrolling through and creating my then profile I accidentally (no, seriously) purchased the A-List package that allows me to see who likes my profile and I saw my now girlfriend of going on six months liked my profile. As funny as it sounds one simple mistake turned Into an actual relationship and we have hit it off so well and still laugh that we met online, and I have now officially moved to the same city with her. So continue on everyone if you’re thinking about making a profile definitely do it!
  • Great site!

This is the best free date site by far. I’ve been on and off this and other sites over the years and I’ve met way more and higher quality people here. The best part about it is that there’s no pressure to pay into it. It works great even for free.
  • swiped me off my feet

For women, this app is great to promote their instagrizzle. For men, this app is a con job. On a daily basis, a fake account will like/message with a phone # and solicitation. But you can’t see who until you’ve swiped to “like” them. Fake accounts get deleted quickly but not the notification... this drives guys to swipe likes looking for that connection OKC promised to promote (or you can buy membership to finally see the toads and robots that like you). In turn this spams women with hundreds of “likes” per day. Worse still, OKC makes women wade into those spammed likes to find incoherent messages “promoted” at OKC’s ramdom discretion. What was once the best dating app has destroyed its greatest asset - the survey question matching system. It could easily use the survey questions as proof of work to earn limited messaging credits, thus eliminating the endless spam problem and reviving the match system with filters. As it is now, it is even more frustrating than Tinder and borderline unethical. Also, the app design/art was change into something childlike and sadly reflective of such a terrible app. Update: If the developer wants to move beyond a canned response, they can start by replying to my message I already sent earlier from their website complaining about the nature of spammy likes, fake accounts, and everything addressed above. It’s a waste of my time to try to do their job to moderate the hundreds of fake accounts on their website. Other users already do this- leading to the quagmire of a false notification as described above. Next they can actually acknowledge the ethical issue of motivating membership purchases from notifications caused by scam accounts. Update 2: Still no thoughtful response from this developer regarding the very specific issues I explained above. No response to my direct email sent earlier either. Daily I still see notifications of messages being sent overnight, messages which either are not promoted as promised or don’t exist because of moderation by the time I log on. This false notification is not reversed, leading OKC to be complicit with fraudulent activity, because it encourages people to buy memberships to find out who likes them. Update 3: Trying again- am finding that on iphone it is impossible to edit profile text because the text will literally not scroll up while editing. Result- you can’t even see what you’re typing. Also can’t select all to delete and simply paste in a thoughtful lengthy message. Next, I apparently have all these “old messages” and it’s been actually productive to read the amazing conversations I’ve had. But having that conversation disappear as I reach out to people who have already mutually liked me and chatted with me??? I must rate OKC negative 5 stars for intentionally making this product worse than unusable, and that is the exact opposite of how OKC was before it was bought out. I cannot stress how important it is to simply use the survey questions as a measure to simultaneously eliminate scammers, and link people with commonalities. It is extremely unlikely a scammer can consistently answer multiple questions correctly on the same subject. Because this app moved away from the survey and toward a swiping system, real people still can’t get through the spam of swipes to get a real message through.
  • Awesome app

    Its awesome
  • Overly complicated UI

    By Sunflowergirl308
No direct messaging, having to "find" messages from people by swiping Tinder style. Way too complicated, not very user friendly. The old way was better.
  • Pass time

A lot of really nasty and disrespectful men on here. And you’re match with people that is totally opposite from what you’re attracted to. And I honestly never knew it was so much ugly people in this world. It’s just a past time. I don’t take nothing from this. It’s just something to do when there’s nothing to do.
  • Just Started...

I am not liking how I can’t see who liked/messaged unless it’s paid for...how much can online chemistry results tell you, there’s so much gray area that tests can’t account for! It’s a fun app to take quizzes, but dating...I’ll give it some more time but it seems like it’s too self-centric.
  • Thanks

Like most reviewers here, I’m incredibly disappointed w/ this new OKC... Years ago this app brought great people,& amazing experiences, into my life. I will always appreciate that... This app is now a scam, taking advantage of men&women who are eager to connect w/ others. I don’t need a response, nor do I want a response. You know exactly what you’re doing,& you’re the ones who will have to live w/ that. Don’t waste your time or your money :)
  • So disappointed

OkCupid had a lot going for it maybe 2 years ago. It was a free dating app with a good amount of users and offered more quality matches than other free-to-use apps. Then they went and deleted some of the better features like seeing who viewed you, and being able to respond to messages without “liking” the sender. Some apps would have simply removed these features from the free side of the platform and hidden them behind a paywall. Not OKC. Even when one pays for the service, he can only see who “likes” him. Those who “like” a user are no more likely to respond to a message than a visitor to a user profile who doesn’t “like”. Also, the current system seems to promote rudeness; for instance, one may wish to politely tell a message sender that they’re not interested but has to “like” the sender in order to do so. So many messages end up going ignored. Altogether, in the age of simplified swipe-left-or-right apps, OKCUPID seems clunky and out of wits.

Allow us to see our messages whether we like a profile or not. Okcupid is becoming a shadow of itself. The app developers should do something about this soon. Take it back to how it was before, let’s see all messages whether we like a profile or not. That’s why you get a one star or no star at all.
