There should be an option to not say what the transaction is for as I don’t need to note down a reason why I’m sending someone money. Banks don’t require it, the Square Cash app doesn’t require it. Why does Venmo?

While the app itself comes in very handy, it is quite easy for someone to steal or transfer your funds and there is no way for Venmo to trace it or get your money back! Here’s what happened to me - phone was stolen and I hadn’t logged out of the Venmo app. Phone thief simply added a card to my account and did an instant transfer. Here’s the interesting part. Because the money was in the app my bank isn’t responsible. Because I don’t have an account from the card phone thief added and it wasn’t my account that bank can’t trace it or release any info. Venmo couldn’t give me a good enough reason that they can’t simply refund my money. So I’m out $510, frustrating situation.

It upsets me that Venmo has as their default setting not private. For example for people in my contacts I can see the reason they are paying someone and they’re not even aware. You can’t change your settings to private but it should’ve felt this way because of this I pretty much use Google Pay instead of Venmo. I have complained to the company and they claim they are a social media platform which is ridiculous.
