  • Sun-Times, Here I Come..... Bye-bye and good riddance, Tribune

Aaand this is how you lose customers Tribune. I've been a loyal Tribune subscriber for many years. But I'm pretty much done with you. I just subscribed to the Sun-Times digital. I'm still keeping my Tribune subscription for the time being, but you are about to lose me. Thank you, Chicago Tribune for waking my wife up 3 times in the last week alone. Let me spell it out for you (not that anyone out there gives a crap their customers' user experience...) NOBODY. I MEAN *NOBODY* WANTS AUTOPLAY VIDEO WITH SOUND!!! Also you are the only news app that I use (NY Times, Chicago Sun Times, USA Today) that makes me watch an ad before getting to my news. It is truly the most annoying app that I use on a daily basis. So, the solution to this is obvious... You are about to lose me and once you do, it's unlikely that I'll be back anytime soon. Not that my one absence will hurt you, but you've lost a loyal customer. And I know for a fact that I am not the only one. We get it, you need to sell ads. But I'd like to be able to read your app without waking my wife up from sleep. It's happened three times in the last week alone. And half the time, she doesn't fall back asleep. So thanks for that. I wake up at 5, and want to read the news and well, apparently, she's now up at 5 as well. So thanks guys. And let me say it again -- on the off chance that SOMEONE out there gives a crap about their users' experience: STOP AUTO PLAY WITH SOUND!!
  • Good content if you can open it

I pay for a digital subscription and find it very annoying that I have to watch an ad to open the app. Also, when I try to open articles, it usually just spins for a while and then crashes the app. When I try to reopen the app, I have to watch the ad again. I expected something far better than this from the Tribune.
  • C’mon Trib... it’s about time you fixed your app

As someone who is been using the Chicago Tribune app for several years now (and the various versions of it over the years), I can honestly say it’s one of the worst apps ever when you consider what the user expects versus reality. Their publications like it the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times have excellent apps that are user friendly and work well without bugs. Surely if the Tribune tries to market/position itself as a world class media outlet , then it should be held to the same standard as its peers - and it is failing horribly. For starters, don’t make me watch an ad before I get to the news stories. Sometimes I need to quickly check the headlines and sitting through an ad, even for a few seconds, is very annoying and unnecessary. Second make sure that the links to your stories work. If I click on a link I should be able to access the story without having it hang up and freeze and go nowhere. Lastly, make your app more user-friendly overall. This is 2018… Please update your app to reflect current times, not something that we would’ve seen 10 years ago.
  • A Lesson in Frustration!

Does anyone at the Tribune read these reviews? If so, what the hell is going on? From the number of bad reviews, it’s clear your App is useless, but you do nothing to fix it. It consistently freezes and fails to function. I know you guys are tight on cash, but ignoring these problem will only drive subscribers away. (BTW: the Suntimes’ App works a hell of lot better!)
  • Where’s the Story?

Worst app out there. Just give me a blank page after clicking a story on the iPhone X. Does it on and off when it feels like it. But doesn’t do it on an iPad 10.5 Figure that out. Plus they charge me to be able to read the articles. Trib is Gr8 taking your money but not giving you the story.
  • Bad app

You would think that when electronic media is the only way for a newspaper to survive, it would try to have the best app. This one is worse than those in small towns. It doesn’t show recent news unless you ask it to. It starts with an annoying full screen advertisement. And the news updates are old. When there was a recent shooting tragedy, I got the news first in a national newspaper app. Even got local election results faster elsewhere, even though i pay for the Tribune. Whoever is responsible for this app should be held responsible for the final demise of the Tribune.
  • Issues still not fixed

I wrote a review some time ago complaining that the app constantly froze - I would click on links to read a story, and at some point, whether the first story or several stories later, the link would open to a blank screen and the app would freeze. This has persisted through multiple app updates and iOS updates. I have an iPhone X, so it’s not an old phone, and my other apps work just fine. It’s frustrating not to be able to trust that I’ll be able to read a story that I’m interested in, and inexcusable that this hasn’t been fixed yet.
  • Horrible App Experience

The reviews are true — too many adds; some stories don’t open; news not updated enough; LA Times app is cheaper and better. Same corporation? I don’t get it. I canceled my subscription.
  • New ads unacceptable for subscribers

These ads when you open the app are ridiculous, a slap in the face for a paying and long time customer
  • Terrible

Always always crashes. Only thing that will not crash is their pop up adds. Canceling my subscription
