App Reviews

  • Best economic and geopolitical publication

World class for breadth, depth and balance.
  • Terrible customer service

    By paul sanwald
I paid for a yearly subscription, and lost access to the app. After 6 weeks of talking with customer service, they can not restore my access or give me a refund. Apple will not give a refund for subscriptions after a certain period of time, despite it being a yearly subscription. I wouldn’t recommend this app to anyone.
  • Best News Source Out There

    By MetalAuthority
The Economist is thorough, fair and pleasantly rid of the emotional hair-pulling most news has become; a refreshing willingness to ponder questions without easy answers, and where they do provide an opinion, it is well reasoned, stated openly, and empirically supported. Support news worth of supporting! Read The Economist!
  • Updated print edition?

    By svordidas
I was interested to read about the recent update to the print edition in light of the fact that the app hasn’t even been updated for iPhone X, which came out over a year ago (the notch covers the text). Also the text size options only range from very large to comically gigantic, and can’t be set to adjust dynamically to the iOS settings. Images and charts are low quality and not interactive like with the New York Times digital edition. Enabling this functionality would be great for their new “Graphic Detail” section which, in its current static form, is completely pointless. Confusingly, some images can be selected and rotated, zoomed in, etc., while others can’t. The iPad version is an unimaginative wall of scrolling text that utterly fails to capture any of the design aesthetic of the magazine. It’s like they literally just copy+pasted it into a text file. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Economist and have been reading it every week since 2006 but they are falling seriously behind in the digital transition.
  • Ads

Why do I pay for an Economist subscription and still get ads on the app?
  • One of a small list of International publications that is Trustworthy.

    By TechPhilosophy
I’ve been reading the Economist since 1978, when I moved to London to work. I have changed significantly since that time, and I mean philosophically. But I still enjoy their expertise that is not poisoned by American politics. I’m retired but writing and have always enjoyed learning about economics, especially international theory. I don’t get the planner anymore. If you want to know what the hell is going on in the world, The Economist probably had a feature on it a few years ago. Seriously, they had one on Loyds of London increasing their premiums to reflect higher natural disasters due to global warming 20 yrs ago? I have never heard this mention in the US. Doesn’t make climate change a hoax. The other feature was on the disappearing usefulness of men. Published long before white men started killing themselves and others. I don’t know if the is even a correlation but I have 3 adult sons and they agree that women kick men’s butts in work efforts, emotional intelligence and healthy living including exercise. Plus they look so much better than men. May they continue the good work.
  • Essential Reading

In a busy life, we need a go to source for world news written with perspective and smarts. It’s important to push ourselves to learn more about things outside our daily lives. Each week I get surprises too. The Economist is my go to. Thx.
  • Amazing content. Terrible functionality.

The economist is the best news outlet. Hands down for objectivity. But the app is absolutely awful. Freezing, laggy and bad.
  • Issues with navigation / downloads

    By banifa
The app keep deleting issues. The message saying that “you are running low on disk and we have deleted issues to save space” is bogus. I have 250gb with 209gb available! Please fix Navigation: it is hard to find an article when someone knows the magazine. You have to scroll down to find a section. It used to be easier.
  • Great magazine, app has bugs

    By David55usernames taken
There seems to perpetually be one aggravating bug or another in every update. For a while, there was one article in each issue that I couldn’t read because as soon as I tried to scroll down my screen would go white and stay that way until I swiped forward or back to a different article. With the redesign, the app doesn’t remember my place in the issue and keeps returning me to the opening article when I pull up the app (even without closing it). Not sure what the exact memory load is that causes this to happen but if I’ve let a couple of hour pass between clicking the app then it seems to happen. I’m using an iPhone 6s. All that said, still worth using because it’s the economist.
