App Reviews

  • Misleading, confusing subscription info!

BBC Sky at Night looks good, but the preview issue includes only a paragraph per story, so it's hard to tell how good it actually is. Worse, you get an InBox message touting up to 68% off the subscription price, which doesn't materialize! You tap on the link and it takes you to a laundry list of magazines, not to the Sky at Night! You end up having to hunt for it, but when you finally find it and click on it, expecting information about the subscription discount, it instead goes to iTunes for the app! Wait! That's where I started! That makes no sense. So, where is the discount? And, what is it? Sorry, but this is not the way to entice subscribers. You should provide an entire issue for free, so that prospective buyers can explore the magazine and the app. Then, provide a direct link to a subscription with an explicit discount shown! I do see where there is a way to start a “free trial”, but without that being clarified, it could well start a free 1-month trial along with a paying subscription for an indeterminate amount! Or, it's for the $5 / issue or $41+ / year, again without any discount. (One has to turn ON in-app purchasing even to see the details of the free trial. No thanks!) It's all tawdry and does a disservice to what I believe is a classic, excellent magazine!
  • Horrible, keeps crashing

Content is GREAT BUT app is a piece of junk! I bought ALL the available issues back to 2013 or 2012. Open an issue, go to another app for 2 min, come back to this app and it takes you to the current issue page! At least they should bring you back to the issue you left from. ALSO: takes LONG TIME to download each page. VERY BAD. If it is not for the great content I would have thrown this app in the garbage. Thanks! Update: App fails to open/crashes most of the time esp on iPhone 6plus. Seems they do not care!
  • Love the magazine, hate the app!

I love the content of the magazine and the app does work fine. I do not like the format of the magazine and I keep having problems downloading it so it is available online.
  • No longer useable, this app is ripoff!

I have tried to buy issues and subscribe. Yes, the BBC app can take your money. But do not expect to actually receive a magazine to read. What have you people done? This app does not function. I will spend no more time or money on this. I would suggest that no one waste their time or money. This app "upgrade" is a complete failure. I subscribe to another BBC magazine, but I will not review that either. Shame on you!

This is an excellent astronomy magazine for beginners. It provides valuable information on buying a quality telescope, star chart apps as well as a calendar of stargazing events.

Horrible customer service! They are dishonest and they don't keep their word. They advertise bonus material but won't deliver. Don't expect what you pay for because they are too cheap
