  • Fantastic App, Fantastic Developer

This is my favorite IOS reading app. The feature list is huge and growing, support for readers of all abilities is broad, and the Developer is open to suggestions and is constantly adding new features and improvements.

Every version gives more features I want to have.
  • I want this to work so much but ....

After much reading, this app seemed like the best. But I can’t even get the sample voices to work. Total silence. And I don’t think it’s my iPad. So I’m literally not getting past the first steps. Sigh. Please help. Thank you. Denise M. A. Brown
  • An amazing app

The app just keeps getting better. I do hope there will be more Siri Shortcuts upcoming, like reading recent files. I also would like VoiceDream's TTS to take advantage of the 3D audio libraries provided by Apple to have a setting to show line width by panning through the stereo field while speaking, and perhaps this could work vertically as well, or at least have it on a flat plane going from front left, to rear right, in surround sound turns.
  • I love 95% of this app!

The app runs great for the most part and the assortment of voices really give you the option to listen to books in a variety of ways. However, on certain books the software will crash and when reading in the "Rich Text" setting it will not always follow on rythym as the audio. But other than that this is definitely a Top 5 app.
  • I Never Rate Anything; Much Less an App

At the risk of overstating, this is literally the most effective, useful and reliable app that I have used. I am an attorney and I often have little time to review the latest facts in a case prior to a hearing. This app has made it possible to listen to any document, regardless of the format (ie. PDF, Docx; etc.) while traveling and/or stuck in traffic on my way to court. I am truly appreciative to the creators of this app.
  • Don’t pay for this app

Siri is a lot better and free.
  • Okay but has trouble pronouncing

    By 29PMagMoose
This app is okay. It can read “normal” and continuous words. It cannot pronounce words that have hyphenation, e.g. words that continues on the next line. I think it has limited word database and is unfamiliar with/cannot pronounce words, for example “usable.” It is inconsistent as well with custom pronunciation, e.g. it can pronounce DSM-III as “DSM three” but cannot read DSM-II (reads out the letters “II”) and DSM-IV (pronouncing “IV” as a word). It’s very frustrating for a slow reader with some attention issues. My listening and reading are often derailed when “mispronunciations” occur which slows me down even more. This app needs to have more and better updates.
  • A Great App with Continuous Improvements! Just Buy It! You will not be disappointed!!!

If you're sitting on the fence at all about purchasing this app, don't wait, buy it now! You will not be dissatisfied! Although I may have what could be called "user bias," because I have been using this app for so many years that I don't know how I would live without it! This app, it's companion app, and the voices that go along with them have been the best investments I have made in apps from the App Store! The developers continuously improve the app, so it gets even better with every update. For example, the latest update allows Voice Dream to read PDFs, but intentionally skipping academic citations and long web addresses, intelligently shortening them so that they are recognizable when read as web addresses, without reading entire long website URLs. I am a very persnickety person, and I have very particular sensibilities. Therefore, I would not recommend just any app. Trust me – this app and it's companions are the real thing! Truly, the developer has a niche jewel that he could over charge for, like some other developers do, ripping us all off with apps over $20. This app, and the price point it maintains, are very much a worthwhile purchase. That said, however, I would not pay a penny more than $20 for this app and its companion apps. Although, I have invested more money in the voices, which are sold separately, for the most part, because they allow me to customize my user experience with different voices, still at a reasonable price. Also, to address a previous reviewer's comments about this app being "garbage," one must always keep in mind the old adage: GARBAGE IN, GARBAGE OUT. As a user with reading disabilities, I can tell you that most websites are NOT optimized for web readers such as this app. A web developer must code his or her site properly in order for it to be read properly by a website reader. For example, the web developer can, and should, indicate in what order the website should be read by an electronic web reader or other accessibility tool. As well, the web developer must indicate for the electronic web reader what items are graphics and what items are pictures, and name each one in the process to describe what it is. It is fully NOT the responsibility of this Voice Dream app developer that most websites are not accessibility friendly. This means that this app is in no way responsible for the "garbage" that was put into it by the other reviewer. As an aside, I do feel strongly that developers who gouge the market with their apps selling over $20, show very little respect for the iOS app buyer. This app, and the price point that it maintains, prove that a developer can make a reasonable profit while still having enough resources to develop a great app! ~Antonio Dominion Redwood Mountain Associates
  • Life changing

    By 1podcastaddict
This app can turns anything that I want to read into a podcast to “read” while on hikes with my dog. Not only that, but it can read at adjustable speeds. Took a little while to get used to but I now absorb reading at 380 words per minute which is a lot faster than people typically talk. I have two suggestions for the authors: 1. Please add bylines so that when an article starts I can hear the title and the author. 2. Add the ability to delete some voices. I use different voices at different speeds, depending on my mood or environment, and having a long list of voices makes it hard to change between them. Otherwise, awesome app! Thanks.
