Road to Hana Maui GyPSy Guide App Description

GyPSy Guide’s narrated driving tour for the Road to Hana, Maui is an excellent way to enjoy all the benefits of a guided tour while you explore at your own pace. There are 140+ audio points that play automatically along the scenic drive, featuring the best things to see and do, stories, tips and driving directions. Professional tour guides share advice on how to prioritize your time at recommended “not to be missed” viewpoints, suggested side-trips and places of interest. Tours work offline, using free GPS signal and location services, so no data roaming, network, or wifi is required while touring. It’s Just Like Having a Tour Guide in Your Car™ WHAT TO EXPECT: The Road to Hana is one of the world’s most scenic drives and a popular sightseeing activity to see Maui’s spectacular waterfalls, black sand beaches, bamboo forests, lava rock formations and amazing ocean views as you wind your way through 620 curves and 59 bridges. If you prefer travelling independently, at your own pace, GyPSy Guide provides the best Road to Hana tour experience, along with the freedom to choose what you enjoy; squishing the black sand between your toes at Wai’anapanapa, hiking the Pipiwai Bamboo Trail, or maybe time to enjoy an extra slice of banana bread. You can’t help but cheer on the world class windsurfers at Ho’okipa. And you won’t need to worry about photoshopping the Rainbow Eucalyptus at the Ke’anae Arboretum or the stunning contrast between blue water and black lava rock at Ke’anae Peninsular. Take a moment to cool off with a quick swim at the pristine Hamoa Beach and see where Haleakala National Park descends from the summit to the sea and the “Seven Sacred Pools” of Oheo at the end of the drive. With such a long day of exploring (expect 8-12 hours), it’s important to know the 5 “not to be missed” stops, and the many more suggestions if you have time. Part of the secret to enjoying the journey is knowing how not to waste your time, and we have tips for that as well. On the return drive from Hana, we’ll point out the not to be missed stops again as well as tell you stories about Hawaii’s fascinating history and rich culture. Please note Highway #31 ‘backside route’ is not recommended for driving. Rental car insurance void. Road can be closed for repairs, mudslides and flash floods. WHAT YOU’LL SEE: Some of the highlights along the route include; • Ho’okipa Beach Park • Paia • Ke’anae Peninsular • Wai’anapanapa Park, Black Sand Beach • Hana • Hamoa Beach • Wailua Falls • Twin Falls • Upper Waikanai Falls (3 Bears) • Pools of O’heo (Seven Sacred Pools) • Pipiwai Bamboo Trail BATTERY USAGE: ++ Continued use of GPS/Location Services in the background increases battery usage. We strongly recommend taking a cigarette style (DC outlet) car charger. Avoid using a direct connection to the USB port of a rental vehicle. IPADS: ** iPad models must include a GPS chip. Please note that Apple only install these on the iPad Wifi + Cellular models. Wifi only iPad models have limited location service capabilities and are unable to play commentary automatically. DOWNLOADING: The apps are larger in size in order to work offline. You must be on wifi to download as the store may block the download over cellular networks. ABOUT US: GyPSy Guide™ produce award winning narrated audio tours along scenic drives and road trips around the world. Enjoyed by travelers who prefer to set their own pace and itinerary on vacation, but enjoy a fun, informative and educational guided experience while driving themselves. • Well worth it!

    By Halftime shark
We’ve driven the road to Hanna 3 times previously but using this app on the 4th made it so much easier and more interesting. We loved the commentary and not having to think about where to stop. Highly recommend getting this app!
  • Road to Hana - Just Do It!

    By Starwood31
This app is like having a tour guide sitting in your back seat! You turn it on and drive. Just like that friend who is super proud of their city and will be like, “oh we have to stop here, best pizza ever” or “everyone goes there, but honestly, it’s’s like having that guy with you in the car. I’ve travelled the road to Hana twice and I used this App both times, it is that good. Many thanks to the developers for putting this amazing software together! :)

I am a frequent traveler and have used many different apps. The Gypsy Tour App is by far my favorite!
  • Concept works but execution failed

    By eskibear
Love the concept. Texted the app before we started the route. Everything was going great until the first stop where I unplugged the phone and took it with me when we ventured out. Then when I come back, the GPS was still tracking me but the audio never played when we hit the next audio market. It was very frustrating. Tried to call customer service and there was no phone signal. Reboot the phone completely and it worked again. That seems to be the fix but then that means I had to keep doing that each time I come back to the car from each stop. Another major problem is that the guide’s opinion is highly biased toward the last stop beyond Hana. Basically it will tell you that everything is not worth it to see. I rather have a more objective narrator to tell me what will I see at each landmark, what level of efforts it takes to hike or walk there, ease of parking, and let the users decide base on their interest and physical abilities (traveling with kids, etc). For example, one of the gem I found was the restroom stop at mile 22. It was a small waterfall that took very little efforts to get to. Perfect for people with young kids but was NOT recommended by the guide. Good thing I read an article about this because it was the highlight for my elementary school age kids. On and all, if I had to do it again, I would have purchased another app because of the constant reboot required (very frustrating and missed out on numerous audio markers) and the lack of objective information.
  • Incredible Road to Hana tour

Commentary is detailed and accurate, very entertaining too. We were very impressed with the detailed knowledge of all the stops, and the history of Hawaii on the way back. Would recommend this to anyone who is looking to take the road to Hana, there’s no way you could go wrong with this app.
  • Must have for the drive

I don’t write reviews, but when I do, it’s this one. A+ all around. Really it’s that good, the developers have made a masterpiece. Kudos to the team!

I love the accuracy of this app and how it’s like having a tour guide in your car. I especially loved the History of Hawaii content on your drive back down the reload to Hana. I recommend this app to all my friends who visit Maui. Will definitely check out the other apps for other drives in the future.
  • Amazing Guidance With Interesting History

    By ColtonMary
Loved this app. So easy to use and made our journey entertaining and stress free. I like how he gives you every option of places to stop but also let’s you know of the must-sees, especially if you are only going for one day. Road back was great and we enjoyed learning the history driving back. We loved going back the way we came as it was super easy.
