Road to Hana Maui GyPSy Guide App Description

GyPSy Guide GPS driving tour of the Road to Hana is an excellent way to enjoy a sightseeing trip on Maui’s most famous drive. There are 140+ audio points that play automatically, featuring what to see, stories, tips and advice. All the benefits of a guided tour, the freedom to drive yourself. TOUR GUIDE AS YOU DRIVE THE ROAD TO HANA If you like driving yourself when you go sightseeing, GyPSy Guide™ tour apps allow you to enjoy a guided tour experience while remaining totally independent. By driving yourself, you'll be able to get from place to place faster, see more things and not be tied to anyone else's schedule. DON'T MISS OUT ON THE BEST SIGHTS AND STORIES The tour apps use your device’s location abilities to play the commentary AUTOMATICALLY. No cell network signal is needed while driving. All you have to do is drive, listen and decide which places you want to stop at (and those you might decide to skip). Our tour guides have created an insightful and entertaining tour for the Road to Hana on Maui. We’ll recommend the best places to experience along the way and some great locations that most visitors will drive by. There’s so much to see and do, GyPSy will help you prioritize what suits you best and make sure you don’t miss a thing. PLAYS AUTOMATICALLY GyPSy Guide knows where you are and which direction you are heading, and plays commentary automatically about the things you are seeing, plus stories and tips and advice. EXPLORE LIKE A LOCAL It’s just like having a local friend to show you around. And that friend just happens to be a professional tour guide. GREAT VALUE The same information you would get on a bus tour or from a guide book, for just a fraction of the price. And you control the itinerary and schedule. WORKS OFFLINE No data, cellular or even wireless network connection needed while touring. Download over Wi-Fi before you tour. Anyone can use them with no need for roaming data – even visiting from another country. DRIVING TOUR ROUTE This tour includes the most popular sightseeing stops and many more: 1) Ho'okipa Beach Park 2) Ke'anae 3) Wai'anapanapa Park 4) Hana 5) Hamoa Beach 6) Wailua Falls 7) Seven Sacred Pools at Kipahulu plus many more great scenic stops. We recommend giving yourself a full day to drive the Road to Hana and start as early as you can. The tour is structured so that we concentrate on sightseeing as we drive towards Hana. Most people want to drive back without stopping, so we have all different commentary and stories for the drive back that will entertain you and pass the time more quickly. Beware of suggestions that recommend going “the back way”. You are most likely going to be in a rental car. All the major rental car companies prohibit their cars being taken on the “back side” of Haleakala. NOTES Download the app on Wi-Fi from your network at home or use any free Wi-Fi network. Because the app is filled with audio commentary and maps, its larger than "normal" apps. Many phone/data networks may block the download because of size - so its important to download over a Wi-Fi network. ++ Continued use of GPS running in the background increases battery usage - we strongly recommend taking a cigarette style (DC outlet) car charger. This is much better than simply plugging into the USB port in a vehicle. ** iPad users - please note that WiFi-only iPads will not activate the commentary automatically. Any iPhone or network-capable iPad (WiFi + Cellular - whether you have a network connection or not) will work just fine. ABOUT US GyPSy Guide™ produce award winning audio tours along scenic drives around the world. Enjoyed by travelers who prefer to set their own pace and itinerary on vacation, but enjoy a fun, informative and educational guided experience. Our goal is to provide a great introduction to the region and perhaps inspire you to learn more and return. None of our apps include paid advertising or placements for benefit.

Worth the $5.99! Get it! The stories are nice and tells you everything you need to know like where to park and what trails are ahead at a stop and what to expect!
  • Well done!

I felt like we had a charming tour guide in our back seat, advising us what to see, what to skip, and where to stop for coffee. The natural and historical information really enhanced a beautiful, long drive.
  • A must have app to get the most out of you trip to Hana

My friend recomanded this and its perfect with all the updates and sites to visit etc. I would like to see this integrated with real time weather and expecially clock. Also it would be great to let user check mark the sites needs to visit or yet to visit etc.
  • Must have

Worked like a a charm. It was much better then having a guide as the commentary was entertaining, full of history and culture. Was literally the best part of the trip to Hana.
  • Don’t do the Road To Hana without buying this app!

This app made our long day trip to Hana so much better. It gave us amazing recommendations on where to stop and what attractions may not be worth a stop if you’re on a time crunch. It gave us amazing history into the island of Maui and Hawaii as a whole. Also, it showed us on a map where we where at all times and worked the entire time without having to worry about cell service on google maps. Make sure to have some music downloaded on your phone because there can be some gaps between commentary. We had iTunes playing and the app going and when we reached a spot of interest, the app lowered the iTunes music and the commentator talked right over it. Everything worked flawlessly. Great app and would on recommend doing the trip with this app.

Yes I know it costs ! But my husband and I used this yesterday and we both agreed it was totally worth it ! Not only does the narrator tell you where to stop and skip but on the way back he tells a lot of history ! This is a great ap!
  • Home Run (again!)

We first discovered the GyPSy Guide at Yellowstone and when we found out there was one for the road to Hana, we knew we had to download it! It was just what we needed! The recommendations and information on the way there were great and the excellent cultural and historical info on the way back was top notch. I NEVER pay for apps with the exception of GyPSy! It's the most inexpensive tour guide you'll ever pay for and you will not be disappointed. Can't recommend this more highly. (Only suggestion: look into making it play even when the app is closed similar to Google Maps)
  • Fine but narration eventually gets tiresome

    By Hprisbrey
This app worked out well in terms of alerting us to points of interest along the road to Hana. The chimes and alerts triggered by GPS were right on. What was annoying was that the narrator kept referring to himself and the listeners in the car as “We.” Dude. You are not in the car with us! Several times the narrator would tell us what he was going to tell us later in the tour. That was fine the first time (to explain how the tour works), but after a while, how about just telling us (at the appropriate time) what the point of interest actually IS? For all us ladies out there, mentions of travel time to/locations of accessible restrooms would be helpful. Its a long day! Other than that, the tour worked out.
