Virtual Hope Box App Description

The Virtual Hope Box (VHB) is a smartphone application designed for use by patients and their behavioral health providers as an accessory to treatment. The VHB contains simple tools to help patients with coping, relaxation, distraction, and positive thinking. Patients and providers can work together to personalize the VHB content on the patient's own smartphone according to the patient's specific needs. The patient can then use the VHB away from clinic, continuing to add or change content as needed. Patients can use the VHB to store a variety of rich multimedia content that they find personally supportive in times of need. For example, a patient can include family photos, videos and recorded messages from loved ones, inspirational quotes, music they find especially soothing, reminders of previous successes, positive life experiences and future aspirations, and affirmations of their worth in their VHB. A patient can also collaborate with their provider to create coping cards to use in response to personal problem areas they experience. Finally, the VHB provides the patient with positive activity planning, distraction tools, and interactive relaxation exercises including guided imagery, controlled breathing and muscle relaxation.

  • Can’t open App

I was really excited about this App, but after I installed it and tried to open it, I found out that I can only open the App if I use Touch ID. I don’t have Touch ID set up on my device. I use passwords instead. Unfortunately I’m going to have to delete this App since it won’t allow me access without Touch ID.

The app was working fine for about a month- now crashes and won’t open. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Now it won’t make any noise- it is just reading through the guided meditation. It doesn’t talk anymore. Stressful

This is app is very simple but so amazing. I would highly recommend it to anyone with anxiety and/or depression. It’s easy to use so when you’re in the moment and in a bad place you don’t have to think too much. Overall just a great app.

I love this app and recommend it to all the students I work with and use it myself. It is amazing! Unfortunately it has not been reliably opening for me and my students lately. I hope they fix this glitch soon because it truly is a great app.
  • Passcode/crash issue

I haven’t used this app for some time but decided to start up again. For some reason, the app now requires my passcode to enter it, and it throws me out after several seconds while attempting to listen to meditations. As another user noted three years ago, it is congruent with when the phone goes to sleep or dims itself. Prior to this, when I last used it a few years ago, it was a great app.

I am a trauma survivor of childhood, adolescent, and adult physical, sexual, torture, and psychological abuse. I may not have been in combat (can’t even imagine! God Bless You all!!) but I do have a significant trauma history and PTSD/DID that leads to self destructive behaviors, suicidal thinking, flashbacks, and memory loss. Thank you for saving my life on Wednesday night. I can’t get myself to call or tell anyone but the coping cards I’ve created with my counselor and the distraction tools allowed me to delay my impulsive thoughts and ultimately not engage in harmful behaviors. So thank you!

I love this app. I had it on my old android phone but when I got an iPhone I found that I had to re-upload all of my photos and find all my YouTube videos that I had saved to it. I wish there was a way to have an account on it and log in so that I could have all the same content on different devices. I feel that would help so much more.
  • Terminal Fatal Update

This used to be my favorite app. I used it in support groups with veterans. For some reason, first got updated on my droid and no longer usable due an internal error with passcodes. I purposely did not update on the iPad, and accidentally did last night. The app is no longer usable due to some pass code issue which is not explained. If the DOD is still paying you for the app., refund their money, as this veteran is no longer able to access this flawed upgrade. I am very disappointed, you need to restore the old version that does not conflict with user devices, or allow it in computer, so we can still do support group use. Error, not touch pad or passcode available is not usable information on your failed app. Clarify the message? Screw the mess up, restore the old useful app. Please!
