App Reviews

  • Rubbish

    By bewdymate
Such a poor showing from the titans of navigation. Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze offer much better experiences (and for free). Edit: I don’t mind paying at all... in fact, I’m happy too if it ensures the feasibility of future updates. My issue is with the actual software. It is less reliable, less usable, a has less features than the previous software.
  • Disappointing customer service - UPDATED

    By bobslee
As an original TomTom app owner I am entitled to a free 3 year subscription to unlimited navigation. When I used the app to activate this, I was mistakenly charged for a 1 year subscription, $17.99 plus tax. My attempts to get a refund from Apple were futile, but eventually TomTom credited me with an additional free subscription. I am a happy TomTom Customer.
  • Won’t load

Since latest upgrade, the app won’t load.
  • Great app

    By greywisdom
I don’t know why there are so many negative reviews this app works great it’s easy to use it’s one of the best ones on the market I just don’t understand why everybody seems to be having so much trouble are use it all the time and always has work great for me
  • I think they are going the Garmin route

    By DaNuke
Garmin has killed their mobile apps; evidently Tomtom is following. They killed the first app and dumped a lesser app on us; albeit with a 3 year unlimited data plan. It appears that we also lost the additional voices that we paid for. Along with this, they decided not to develop an iPad version. So it’s a good thing that I only choose a wifi only ipad.
  • Very battery eating app and search is very primitive

    By finsmusicology
Tom tom can be improved in search area and the app battery conservation I was start my iphone at 20 percent and concent to charger with app on Afterfour hour drive my charge us at 5 So most if the charge was taken by this app If we had option not use mobile network that will be great . Since all info is downloaded
  • Sound problem

    By Aksbel
Hi. Since the last update I’m having problems with the sound. Every time I start the App the sound bar is always at the lowest position. I have to pull it to the highest even though my phone’s sound is at the highest at that time. Also sometimes I need to restart TomTom App to get driving directions or notifications to work. I hope u aware of this guys and working on the fix. Thanks!!!
  • Mildly improved. I hope they update for CarPlay/iOS 12!

Update 6-10-2018: The app appears to be more stable, as it hasn’t crashed on me for several months. That said, app and/or map updates are still slow to come. There have been a few feature enhancements (sharing ETA by text is one) but it’s still dumbed down compared to a stand alone top end TomTom car GPS device. Traffic updates seem to have improved in that the data seems to refresh better as it used to. The interface still needs updating- it’s nice looking but the menu structure is messy and unnecessarily complicated. It takes too many taps to get to what you need. Example: canceling a should be a top level single tap. Searching for POI’s is tricky- and a lot of information is missing, forcing you to google the business, find the address and then input that- needlessly complicated. With iOS 12 on the horizon I hope TomTom will do a significant refresh and streamline functions. Hopefully they have their eye on the ball and will be ready to make navigation available through Apple CarPlay as Apple announced will be a new feature in iOS 12. If TomTom does not- they’ll be handing their competition that does do this a huge advantage and reason to switch. ***Original Review*** I’m running iOS 11.0.2 and since iOS 11 Tomtom has crashed at startup and randomly. Updates to both the app and maps have slowed down greatly. Not sure why- just that they hardly ever come. This version feels dumbed down as well- it’s lacking features found on the android and stand alone versions. Traffic is the main reason I use this app. Lately though traffic data seems slow to update despite the claims by TomTom. Which since they provide data to other apps as well- is not a good thing.
  • It's OK

    By Ckwdylan
I have been a user of the original TomTom app since it first came out, over 7 years ago. I travel extensively throughout the US and Canada and it was, by far, the best value in GPS tech. This new Go app is virtually the same with the ability to download the entire North American road map the feature that sets it apart. However, there are features from the original that this does not have that leaves me very disappointed. Most disappointing is the lack of a "limited speed" route plan option. I have a personal speed limit of 65 and with the limited speed option I could pretty accurately see my arrival time. Also very useful in the original was the name/number of the next road you will turn onto in the top banner. The distance to next turn is still there but not the road designation. Third, the lack of color choice. In certain lighting conditions and especially with sunglasses it is difficult to see the map adequately. With many people's color blindness I can see this being a problem for others as well. The size of the app has more than doubled for the US/Canada maps, from just over 2gb to well over 5gb. Not a big deal but I did have to make some adjustments. All in all I still recommend this app. It's still the best value in personal GPS tech. I sure wish they would at least add the limited speed option. I'd give it 5 stars despite the other things I've mentioned. Update: 1 - When searching the suggestion list that displays as you type the address never shows the state, only the city and a zip. I would bet that most people when given an address to find are not given the zip and the fact that city names are often repeated across many states this makes deciding which is the correct one for the address being searched, difficult. 2 - I will repeat that there still needs to be a speed option when selecting a route type. 3 - I have found myself using Google Maps sometimes only because it gives me several options of routes to take to a destination. Would be an easy add and would be VERY helpful. 4 - Most important and the real reason why I chose to update this review is the map update. As we all know the update is VERY large regardless of the map chosen. It takes hours depending on one’s own Internet capabilities. I started the update but could not finish it before I had to use my phone again. When I went back to the app it now says I have NO MAP INSTALLED and hence the app is useless. I’m not sure when I will have the time to reinstall a map. The app says I can use other apps while installing but I had to leave the place where my WiFi internet connection was and the connection was lost. Now the GO app is useless but still taking up 6GB of space. This is a TERRIBLE design flaw. The good news is the real time traffic info is very good.
  • Good Navigation Bad App

    By Cgabbott
I’ve always loved the quality of the TomTom navigation especially the recalculation speed, however the app is just going down hill. Firstly when it finds faster routes, suddenly I can no longer see what I’m doing especially if I’m approaching an intersection and need to go the right way, the screen is filled with information and tiny touch buttons, I’m driving I cannot stare at the screen for 5 minutes reading all that, make it clear simple and without removing critical drinking information from the screen. Secondly on the latest versions the lookup from address is NOT WORKING!!! Even when I find a point on a map. Select it, navigate to it, then go to recent destinations to see what address is used and try searching for the exact same one it does not work, also it’s started adding the state twice into its addresses (street name and no)(state)(town or city)(state) why! Please fix this the address lookup used to work perfectly, I can provide many data sets for your testers to use!
