App Reviews

  • Terrible

I had the old Tomtom app for years, it worked very well. The new app is terrible, don’t waste your money!!
  • This is the best navigation.

Don’t be fooled by all these negative reviews from the competitors, I suspect by google mainly. TomTom is the best navigation app/ system on the market. It’s not free but if you want the best you have to pay. Is that simple. On my recent trip from NYC to Miami and back I was in the traffic for 20 min only. For a 2500 miles trip it’s not bad I think. TomTom traffic simply is the best on highways. Helped me to avoid hotspots along the route in Washington DC, Richmond etc. Now two things I don’t like. First, right now the app is not syncing my places with my drive. Second, I don’t like zoom levels while I navigate. You need to change the presentation of the map in navigation view. I use the app on plus size screen and it looks quite not right. Other than that It’s the best app for navigation.
  • TomTom is done

I bought the original Europe app. I bought the Costa Rica app a while ago as well. Now TomTom is saying they changed their mind and decided they wanted more money from me. You ain’t getting any, not at this day and age when there’s a ton of decent navigation apps. As they say it in their canned responses, they have their own definition for ‘lifetime’, as if anybody cares about legalese. Nobody’s suing, people are just annoyed by your greed and dishonesty. Dress it however you want, but it’s all very simple, your sales went down and all you could think of was to make people pay again for the app they already bought. Well, not the same app, you made it worse just in case. I’ll use the original app until it becomes too outdated, but after that, I’m done. Congratulations, TomTom, you managed to turn an old loyal customer into someone who’ll be jumping at the first chance to dissuade everyone from ever considering TomTom navigation. That’s quite an achievement.
  • Their “Lifetime” isn’t really lifetime

I paid good hard earned money for my lifetime subscription to Tomtom’s gps app (which I loved by the way). And now this subscription crap. I even restored purchases and it says I have to pay monthly. This is not cool
  • Needs an update

Awesome app, great routing and traffic notifications. Maps look good, BUT it’s still NOT iPhone X compatible!!!
  • Just crap

It pained me to finally delete TomTom from my phone, it was the only Nav app I had used for years. My professional travel puts me in more than 45 cities a year, my recreational travel is often in areas without cell and this was always my go to app. I really tried TomTom Go and it’s far from the original, not finding destinations, incorrect navigation (it tried to send me through a major city international airport secure area last week), often will not find a route or an alternative. I’ll watch it for a while on the App Store and if it gets up to 4 stars with the reviews I’ll try it again. For now it’s not worth the frustration.

Are iPhone X display enhancements coming soon?
  • Customer support is slow but helpful

I'm one of those who paid a lot for the previous app and were disappointed to find it disappeared. I wish TomTom had made it easier for us to get the three free years on the new app. If they'd figured out some kind of self-service method for getting it set up instead of having it be only via their support staff, I might have been able to get up and running in 15 minutes instead of 5 or 6 days. That said, I'm quite happy with the support I eventually got. I'll come back to review how well the new app actually works once I've had a chance to use it more.
  • Great GPS App

Don’t let the negative reviews stop you from getting this - it’s a great app. I used the old TomTom app for iPhone for several years and loved it. Always liked having the maps on my phone so it still works even when you lose your cellular signal and this still gives you that option. After reading all the negative reviews of this one I was disappointed that the old app was being phased out. But I finally downloaded it and have now used it for several trips including a 1500 mile cross country drive. Based on the older reviews I’m guessing they’ve made a lot of improvements as my experience with it was great. It is now much faster and easier to enter your destination than with the old app and I like the new graphics. It seems to have pretty much all of the old features that I used. It’s very intuitive but you can download a user manual to be sure you haven’t missed anything. The only negative I found is that on two or three occasions when exiting the freeway, the verbal guide would state the name of the road I was exiting onto, but not the same name that was on the exit sign ahead. The on-screen text did correctly show the same thing as the sign, so it seems to be just the verbal guide that’s sometimes off. The verbal guide did always give the correct exit number, so just note to look for the number and not necessarily the name it tells you. I’d rate the app five stars if it weren’t for this one flaw. Would give it a 4.9 but the option is either 4 or 5.
  • Unhappy with iPhone X and IOS 11.2

I have been a TomTom user for many years starting with a two piece TomTom system. One of the features I use the most is live traffic. I use this for my commute to work daily. In the past when I stepped into my Toyota Camry BT auto connect and with IOS control center I switched to the hear directions via the iPhone not the radio so I could listen to satellite radio as well. When a phone call was received I got the auto switch to the sound system, when complete it went back to iPhone audio for directions. Now it some times does not connect or change to iPhone audio as well as not connect for any audio at all As a side note the Apple map app works fine. The initial settings when connect on TomTom is via the control center, and on the Apple map app is via the Apple map about.
