I’m a fashion photographer and I live between New York, LA, Milan and Sydney. Mixer has been incredible for me for connecting with professionals in the industry, and got me a lot of jobs and quality projects to work on. I’d never take the time to review any app, but I’m glad to make an exception here!

Mixer is brilliant. I've been using it for a few months, both to find paid teaching artists for my summer program, and artists willing to do barter/work exchange on a 'passion project'. I've gotten more qualified applicants for my job posts (and made more hires) on Mixer than anywhere else, both for the paid and barter positions. In the process have made some good professional connections and met some cool, talented folk. I credit this to the curated, private nature of the community, and the good design of the app. Also, much appreciation to the Mixer team for respecting barter and work exchange alongside paid work as legitimate ways for artists to conduct business.

I’ve connected with a couple of big Netflix producers here. Would recommend to anyone.

You're going to set up an account, then after the account is set up, you'll be locked out and asked to pay. You can't get back in to delete your profile and they'll keep your profile in there for others to assume is a active account. Don't do it! I still get emails of people who've asked to connect to me because they think my profile is active. Why? Because they've been tricked into paying to talk to people's inactive accounts.

The app is a little hard to find but once you get going it’s worth it. This is certainly one of the richest social networks for creatives. As with any social network your return is going to be better if you’re an active user. Mixer has a great setup if you’re already a heavy Instagram user.

It’s a great platform for people living big cities like New York, Los Angeles, or London. I’ve got a few jobs out of it and made some great connections

My profile has been in review for months and I hear the apps only filled with musicians now. Deleting the app today.
  • Pay to even enter and see if you need/want it? No

They offer two free weeks, after you agree to a monthly plan and THEN you can go in a see if this is even something you need or want? Let people in if even for 5 minutes to see what this even is, I still dont know what this is ....Facebook for artists? Maybe? Edit: developer contacted me to let me know you can actually go and look around for free, the first two weeks are free and u can cancel before the charges start after that.

Horrible app, no community, just boring as can be. I was on Mixer for numerous months at $9.99/ month and received zero value. No thanks.

Bizarre, tinder-like UI with no clear reasoning or weight to the people you’re seeing. Aside from the paywall thrown up ahead of even seeing the network - the entire layout seems lazy. Lots of filters and convoluted steps to viewing portfolios. There’s no clear purpose or value to the network - it’s a mix of a public portfolio, friend-finder, and a standard job-board. Overall there’s nothing this network does well - no immediate value, and a lot of holes that you’re asked to pay up-front to see.
